Special Event 37th Annual Reunion & 19th Annual Meeting It's a "family tradition"! Islanders and their descendants and friends have been getting together every year on July's last Saturday since 1970. Come any time between ten and noon to check in and socialize ... renew old acquaintances and make new friends. Enjoy special pre-meeting shows and exhibits. Coffee, tea, and soft drinks will be provided. Youngsters can have fun at the beach, with supervised play and activities ... look for the MIMS sign near the playground. Frmer Islanders: bring your photo scrapbooks, photo albums and memories ... this year we'll also be having an informal "oral history roundtable". Lunch is at noon. Dinnerware will be provided, and main entrees will be catered this year ... bring your favorite homemade bread, salad, side dish or desert to share if you can (but if not, don't let that discourage you ... there's always plenty to go around.) It's down to business at one o'clock, as President Paul Rocheleau brings down the gavel calling our 18th Annual Meeting to order. Guests are welcomed to remain and observe the proceedings; we'll keep the "business" part short, because there'll be an interesting program before the gavel strikes the table again. After that, there will be more time for conversations and lingering good-byes. The event officially ends at four; we clean up and close the Hall ... then move on to leisurely strolls to the beach and more comeraderie around the tables at "Joe's Friendly". At sunset, join the kids, or the usual gang of Empire residents at the beach to watch the sun go down. Cool breezes, friendly conversation, jokes and good times ... all within view of Sunday's destination: South Manitou Island. The "Sunset Bunch" is a BYOB affair ... water, tea, soda pop or what have you. Reservations for this event are never required, but it's helpful to have some idea about who might be coming. If convenient, please share your plans by clicking on the "Répondez" link ... or just come join the fun! |
